David Lennett

Much of David Lennett’s legal advocacy focuses on global and domestic mercury pollution. He helped develop a global treaty for reducing mercury pollution, co-authored the authoritative guide to the treaty’s text, and is currently assisting governments in their treaty ratification and implementation processes. He also helped the Chinese government determine how much mercury was used by the key industrial sectors, and worked with activists in the United States to phase out mercury product use and improve programs to collect used mercury products at the state level. Before coming to NRDC, Lennett led Maine’s Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management, where he helped secure passage of the most sweeping set of mercury product laws in the country. Lennett is based in Washington, D.C., but frequently works in Beijing and elsewhere in Asia.
