Alex Hillbrand
Technical Director, Industry & Emerging Technologies, Climate & Energy
Alex Hillbrand leads NRDC’s technical projects related to decarbonizing heavy industry—including steel, cement, and aluminum manufacturing—and fostering prudent uptake of emerging climate technologies, including hydrogen, carbon dioxide removal, and more. Hillbrand also oversees the work to phase down hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in the U.S. under the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act and globally under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, which is work that he been a part of since joining NRDC in 2015. Hillbrand holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Cornell University and a master’s degree in energy systems engineering from the University of Michigan and is based in the Washington, D.C., office.
